Copenhagen Pride — officially branded as Mermaid Pride — is the largest Pride event in Scandinavia, drawing over 350,000 participants to Copenhagen for a week of events culminating in the Pride parade through the city centre. The parade moves along the main streets of central Copenhagen on the Saturday, passing landmarks including Rådhuspladsen and arriving at the main stage near the waterfront. The surrounding Pride Week programme covers club nights across the Studiestræde venues and the wider city, cultural events at Copenhagen's museums and galleries, outdoor concerts, boat parties in the harbour, and community debate panels. Copenhagen Pride is the event that best encapsulates Denmark's specific LGBTQ+ historical significance: the first country to legally recognise same-sex partnerships (1989), the first national church to perform same-sex weddings (2012), host of WorldPride 2021 with Malmö. Attending Copenhagen Pride is not only one of Scandinavia's best festival experiences — it is a visit to the city that started the global march towards legal equality for LGBTQ+ people.
