The Bois de Boulogne is Paris's most well-known and active outdoor cruising area, particularly busy after dark in the wooded sections accessible from Porte Dauphine (Metro Line 2 or Line 1). Cruising activity concentrates in the deeper footpaths away from the main roads and family-oriented areas; the busiest periods are Thursday afternoons, weekends, and Mondays. The Bois is large — 845 hectares — and the geography matters: the western perimeter roads along Boulevard périphérique are frequented by transgender sex workers and are a different zone. The cruising areas proper are the internal wooded paths. Exercise standard urban outdoor safety precautions; the areas in active use are reasonably safe but isolation after midnight should be avoided.
