Athens Pride is Greece's national LGBTQ+ celebration, held each June in the ancient capital where Western civilization began. The parade through Syntagma Square, with the Parthenon visible on the Acropolis above, creates one of the most symbolically resonant backdrops of any pride event in the world.
Athens Pride has grown significantly over the past decade, now drawing tens of thousands to the city's central square and the festival village at the National Gardens. Greece legalized same-sex civil partnerships in 2015 and, following years of campaigning, legalized same-sex marriage in 2024 — making Athens Pride 2026 one of the first full celebrations of marriage equality in the country.
