About this place Ladadika Bar Scene

The Ladadika district near the Port of Thessaloniki was transformed from an abandoned warehouse zone in the 1990s into the city's principal nightlife and entertainment area — a process that involved the repurposing of the old oil warehouses (from which the area takes its name) into bars, restaurants, and clubs. The district is not specifically gay but has developed a strongly LGBTQ+-inclusive culture over the years, partly because of its association with the arts community that moved in alongside the bars and partly because mixed, socially progressive entertainment districts tend to attract LGBTQ+ crowds in all European cities. The Ladadika functions as the neighbourhood within which several of Thessaloniki's gay-friendly venues operate, and an evening spent moving between its cobbled streets and examining its various bars from the outside will quickly identify which are drawing the LGBTQ+ crowd on any given night. The proximity of the Ladadika to the Valaoritou area — a ten-minute walk — means the two districts can be explored together in an evening.
