Budapest Pride is Hungary's annual LGBTQ+ celebration and one of the most politically significant pride events in Europe, held in a country that has experienced dramatic deterioration of LGBTQ+ rights under the Orbán government. The march through central Budapest — past the iconic Parliament building and across Chain Bridge — has become an act of visible resistance as much as celebration.
International solidarity is a key element of Budapest Pride: LGBTQ+ people and allies travel from across Europe to march in solidarity with Hungarian LGBT+ activists fighting against government-sponsored discrimination. The event is protected by significant police presence, and the march through the Hungarian capital's magnificent Baroque and Art Nouveau boulevards is emotionally charged and historically resonant.
