Bohème is Catania's most established gay bar, located near Piazza Stesicoro in the heart of the Baroque city. The bar occupies a ground-floor space in a lava-stone building that is typical of post-1693 Catania — dark, monumental, strikingly beautiful. The interior is warmer than the architecture suggests: exposed stone walls, good lighting, an eclectic music playlist and a crowd that represents the best of Catanian gay social life. The mix includes university students, young professionals, artists from the city's active music scene and a contingent of visitors from the surrounding region who come to Catania specifically for the gay bar scene. Cocktails are well-made and priced reasonably for Sicily. DJ sets on Friday and Saturday evenings. The bar is open from early evening through the night and serves as the primary orientation point for visiting gay tourists.
