Riga Pride has been held since 2005, making it one of the longest-running pride events in the Baltic states. The event has faced opposition but has grown steadily, and Riga periodically hosts the larger Baltic Pride that rotates between the three capitals. Latvia's accession to the EU has brought gradual legal improvements, and the pride event reflects the ongoing fight for full equality.
