Moscow Pride has not been legally permitted since 2006, with every attempt to march met with violent attack and mass arrests — yet the organisers have continued to attempt it each year as an act of legal challenge and international visibility. Russia's increasingly hostile LGBTQ+ laws have made the situation more dangerous, not less. The event exists as an act of extraordinary courage by the Russian queer community and deserves global attention and solidarity.
