CC Bloom's on Greenside Place is Edinburgh's longest-running gay venue and the anchor of the city's LGBTQ+ scene. Named after the Bette Midler character in Beaches, the bar has been operating since the late 1980s and occupies a prominent position at the top of Leith Walk, on the edge of the Pink Triangle area. The venue has a full late-night licence and serves as the de facto late-night option for Edinburgh's gay community — the place you end up after the rest of the evening has been conducted elsewhere. Regular drag performances and theme nights keep the entertainment calendar full. The two-level layout provides a bar area and a smaller dancefloor, and the atmosphere becomes genuinely energetic on Friday and Saturday nights when the late licence draws the post-dinner crowd. CC Bloom's is the bar that Edinburgh's gay community returns to generation after generation — it is the room that carries the continuity of the city's LGBTQ+ social history.
