About this place Club Kaos

Club Kaos takes its name from (and has historic connections to) Kaos GL — the LGBTQ+ organisation founded in Ankara in 1994 that has been the most important voice of queer civil society in Turkey for three decades. The bar is in the Kızılay district, Ankara's central commercial and nightlife area, operating as the most explicitly gay-identified venue in the capital. Given Ankara's character — a planned administrative city that is less cosmopolitan and less nightlife-oriented than Istanbul — the bar serves a specific function: a community gathering point for Ankara's gay population and for students from the city's large university sector (METU, Hacettepe, Bilkent and others). The atmosphere is more political and culturally engaged than the average Turkish gay bar — community events, discussions and the legacy of Kaos GL's activism are part of the venue's identity.
