Chianti is the most consistently referenced gay bar in Istanbul — a long-running venue in the Cihangir neighbourhood of Beyoğlu that has served the city's LGBTQ+ community through the boom years of the early 2010s and the contractions that followed. Cihangir is the right address: a hillside district of crumbling Ottoman apartments, independent coffee shops, artists and a social demographic that has made it Istanbul's most LGBTQ+-tolerant neighbourhood by general consensus. The bar operates without visible LGBTQ+ signage from the street — in keeping with current operating conditions — but is well-known within the community. The crowd is predominantly gay male, Turkish and international, with a mix of ages that reflects the bar's longevity. Cocktails are competent and the terrace, where available, gives views down the Cihangir hillside. Arrive from 22:00 onwards for company. The bar coordinates informally with SPoD and the broader community calendar — check Grindr's Explore feature for current event listings in the area.
