Manchester Gay Pride is the UK's second-largest LGBTQ+ festival, transforming the Northern Quarter and the Gay Village around Canal Street into a four-day celebration each August. The event draws hundreds of thousands to one of Britain's most culturally dynamic cities — a city that has been central to British LGBTQ+ history since Alan Turing's persecution and the Coronation Street community that pioneered gay representation on British television.
The Manchester Pride Parade on Saturday through the city centre draws 20,000+ marchers past the iconic Central Library and Town Hall. The Big Weekend at the Gay Village on Canal Street runs Thursday to Monday with multiple stages, fairground rides, and performances. Manchester's legendary music scene — from Madchester to modern indie pop — gives pride weekend an exceptional musical character.
