Rome has a solid gay sauna scene, though it is less prominent than in cities like Berlin or Amsterdam. Several venues operate across the city, ranging from basic but clean to well-equipped multi-room facilities. The scene is active throughout the week, not just weekends.

What to expect

Roman saunas follow the standard Italian format: lockers or private cabins on entry, steam room and dry sauna, showers, and shared cruising areas. Some venues have a pool or jacuzzi. Facilities are generally maintained to a reasonable standard and staff are matter-of-fact about what the venue is for.

Pricing is modest by northern European standards. Entry for a locker session typically runs 10-20 euros depending on the venue and time of day. Private room upgrades cost more. Towels are usually included or available for a small fee at the desk.

Timing

Weekday afternoons attract a regular local crowd. Evenings and weekend afternoons are busier. Some venues are open 24 hours or close very late, which fits the Roman nightlife schedule — people do go after the bars close. Checking specific opening hours before you go is worth doing, as these can vary seasonally.

Practical notes

Bring your own products if you have preferences — most venues provide basic soap but not much else. Phones and cameras are not permitted inside, as is standard. Lockers are provided for valuables.
