Sitges is a small town, and the sauna scene reflects that. Do not expect the range of options you find in Barcelona, Madrid, or major Northern European cities. What exists caters to a community that is there primarily for the beach and the bar scene; saunas are a secondary feature rather than a main draw.
What is available
Sitges has one or two gay saunas operating at any given time, and availability can shift seasonally. In summer, when the town's population swells, demand is higher and venues are more reliably open with extended hours. In winter, reduced hours or temporary closures are possible; checking before you visit is sensible.
The saunas that do operate in Sitges follow the standard format: steam rooms, dry sauna, showers, lockers, common areas, and in most cases private cabins available at extra cost. Facilities are functional and reasonably maintained, though they are not on the scale of the larger Barcelona venues. Entry prices are comparable to what you would pay in Barcelona.
Barcelona as an alternative
Given the train journey is 35 to 40 minutes, Barcelona is a realistic option if you want a wider choice of sauna facilities. The city has several well-established gay saunas in the Eixample neighbourhood with better facilities and more varied options than Sitges can offer. If sauna visits are a priority, you might find it more satisfying to take the train into Barcelona for that specifically.
That said, if you are already in Sitges and want to stay local, what is available there is perfectly adequate for a visit, especially during summer when the clientele includes a mix of international tourists and local residents.
The saunas
- SAUNA SITGES — Sauna Sitges is located on C.Espalter and is open year round. The bar at the front is a popular late night drinking spot and the downstairs sauna is cruisy. In 2016 Sitges Sauna was taken over by new management and has been completely refurbished with a new look and new staff.
Practical notes
Check current opening hours before visiting, particularly in off-season. Towels are typically provided or available to hire. Cards may or may not be accepted; bring cash as a backup. For the broader Sitges picture, see the Gay Sitges Guide.
