aGLIFF — the Austin Gay and Lesbian International Film Festival — is the annual showcase of LGBTQ+ cinema held each September in Austin. One of the most significant LGBTQ+ film festivals in the southern United States, aGLIFF presents feature films, short films, documentaries, and animated works from the United States and internationally, with filmmakers in attendance, Q&A sessions, panel discussions, and community events surrounding the screenings. The festival screens at Austin's independent and arthouse cinema venues. Founded in 1987, aGLIFF has been a consistent presence in Austin's LGBTQ+ cultural calendar through the city's full transformation from state capital to global tech and culture destination. September is one of the better months to visit Austin: the extreme summer heat has begun to moderate, the SXSW season is six months past, and the city is at a more relaxed pace.
