Philadelphia has one of the most important LGBTQ+ histories in America — the city hosted the nation's earliest gay rights demonstrations in the 1960s, and the Gayborhood around 12th and Locust Streets has been a queer hub for generations. The annual Pride March each June draws tens of thousands through Center City, past Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell, in a celebration that carries that deep history with it. Philly's pride has a working-class, community-rooted character that sets it apart from bigger coastal events.
