Women's Week Provincetown is the premier lesbian-focused gathering of the New England LGBTQ+ calendar — a week of events, performances, comedy shows, dance parties, and social gatherings held each October that draws approximately 15,000 women to the tip of Cape Cod. The event takes place in mid-October, after the main summer season has closed and the town has returned to something closer to its winter scale, which gives Women's Week a different character from the summer events: more intimate, more community-oriented, the town genuinely belonging to the attendees in a way that is impossible in the crowded summer months. The programming includes nationally recognised lesbian comedians and musicians, art exhibitions, dance events, and themed parties at the main venues. Women's Week has been running since the 1980s and has a loyal following of women who return annually. For lesbian travellers, the combination of Provincetown's extraordinary setting and the Women's Week programming makes October the ideal time to visit.
