The Trapp Door on East Broadway (300 South) is Salt Lake City's neighbourhood gay bar — smaller and more local in feel than Club Try-Angles, rooted in the regular patronage of LGBTQ+ residents who live and work in the central city. The Broadway location in the commercial strip of the historic Salt Lake City block pattern puts it accessible from the 9th and 9th neighbourhood to the east and from downtown to the west. The bar format is the neighbourhood local: regular crowd, themed event nights, the comfortable familiarity of a bar that knows its regulars. In a city where LGBTQ+ people have historically relied on the bar scene as a safe public space in ways that are less necessary in more liberal cities, the neighbourhood gay bar fills a social role that extends beyond the purely recreational.
