Khumbulani Pride — whose name means 'remember' in Zulu and Xhosa — is a township pride event in Gugulethu, Cape Town, specifically serving Black LGBTQ+ communities who have historically been marginalised even within South Africa's pride movement. The event directly addresses the violence and discrimination faced by LGBTQ+ people in township communities and creates a space where Blackness and queerness are celebrated together. A deeply important and moving event.
